It depends on how you use your Mac. If you fire up
a few apps in the morning and never exit them
(intentionally!) until quitting time, then nope.
If you're constantly opening and closing a dozen or
so different apps all day you can run into trouble,
depending on how good the apps are at cleaning up
after themselves and all the other little bugaboos
that have been with Mac memory management since
day 1. It also depends on how much RAM you have
to "burn" on memory leaks from badly behaving apps.
This G3/233 has 160 megs RAM and most of the time
I start Gerry's ICQ, then Word Perfect 3.5 then
Netscape 4.78. (Our customer database doesn't
play nicely with IE on some things.) As long as
Netscape doesn't shoot itself with a Type 2 or
3 or "unknown" error, I can keep it going all day.
But let Netscape or Gerry's ICQ explode a time or two
and I have to reboot. I _really really_ want
Jump Dev to make one final version of RAM Charger
for OS 8.5 through 9.2.x! I've sent them e-mail
on that subject, so have plenty of other people.
Apple is >thisclose< to being done with "Classic"
so they won't be deliberately busting 3rd party
tech that Apple is too lazy to do themselves or too
arrogant to license from someone who did it
better. :P (Apple didn't do the menubar clock,
Extentions Manager and some of the other bits that
make Mac OS so good!)
