<Shameless plug>There is a step by step page on setting up PPP 2.01 and
MacTCP 2.0.6 on my web page. It covers System 6 but the procedure is 99%

My instinct says that you have flow control wrong in PPP. Do you have a
hardware handshaking modem cable or a plain one?

Have you deleted the PPP Preferences file? Have you purged MacTCP Prep
and MacTCP DNR? Do you restart the Mac after changing MacTCP?
