A couple of random upgrade questions: I have downloaded the System 7.1 disks and would like to upgrade from 7.0.1. I'm planning to try to do a backup first, since I don't have the original disks of the software on the computer. (I do have the original System 7.0.1 disks).
It looks like StuffIt can be used to backup across multiple floppies. I haven't had a chance to try this yet, so I thought I'd ask if anyone has used it for this. I was able to copy many of the files onto floppies, but the main program file was generally too large. Having the whole thing compressed would be a huge help. The files for System 7.1 are disk images and are the right size to fit on a floppy. I know there's info online about using disk images, so I'll check this out before I try the upgrade. What I am not finding is good information on exactly HOW to do the upgrade. It looks like the Installer will take over the process, if I manage to get them onto the floppy properly. I do have the Disk Copy program installed now. If you know of any online documentation that would be useful, please let me know. (This is one of the things I find irritating about Mac books. They have lots of stuff on the basics and reviews on programs. Damn little on upgrading the operating system, or properly deleting and cleaning up a program.) Thanks for the help!
