It's common for third-party cards, but most Apple ones actually don't work
with multiscan monitors and/or monitors that don't sync on green.  For
instance, the 4*8, 8*24, and the Mac II cards don't like displays that
don't sync on green.  I'm a bit surprised by the fact that the mono card
works, but I suppose it sort of makes sense that a monochrome card wouldn't
require sync-on-green, since there isn't a green to sync on :)
