They are essentially the same thing, just different connectors. Transcievers are available for both to convert them to BNC or RJ45 connectors. The Apple AUI (AAUI) is just smaller to save space and keeps people from plugging Mac monitors or PC joysticks into the port. You don't want to plug a Mac monitor into a PC's joystick port. Real "Magic Smoke" comes out of the PC. Dunno what it does to the monitor.
