As noted in the FAQ,

"Vintage Macs is a forum for users of 68020 and 68030-based Macintosh
computers. This includes some compact Macs, the Mac II series, and LCs.

"Using our "once removed" rule, discussion of 68000- and 68040-based Macs
is acceptable. Power Macs should be discussed on other lists. Owners of
other Macs are encouraged to join the appropriate list from those listed
on the right."

We don't know or care how Apple defines vintage, which is a moving target
for them (just like low-end for us).

History: I began Quadlist for Quadra, Centris, and 040-based Performa
users in November 1997 to fill the void between Classic Macs Digest and a
few lists supporting Power Macs. As a Centris 610 owner, I felt there was
a void that should be filled.

Was it ever!

The following June we split off Vintage Macs (for all pre-68040 models),
PowerMacs (for all PPC machines), PowerBooks (for all portables), and
added SuperMacs (our first clone list, because I was buying one and
nobody else supported it), the Internet's first iMac list, and
MacInSchool, to address the threat to Macs in the Grand Rapids (MI)
Public Schools.

When Vintage Macs got too busy, we separated out the compact all-in-one
models in July 1999. That took all the 68000 models off this list. We
later expanded the scope of that list to also cover the 500 series of
all-in-one Macs.

There's a bit of overlap. Vintage Macs is for 68020 and 68030 models, but
some all-in-ones have 68030 CPUs. Still, it helps keep the focus of each
group to a family or two of mostly similar hardware.
