As promised: the profile of the ImageWriter I. It is of course just
a concept. Feel free to comment.
We are now in the process of developing a guideline for the profiles
of all other (vintage) mac compatible printers we are going to write
profiles on.

Nice work, Marten.

A couple of amendments. Another weak point is noise. It is very difficult to hold a phone conversation if an IW is printing in high quality mode in the same room. An acoustic hood helps and they can often be obtained for next to nothing from office clearances.

The entire ImageWriter family are still useful in a modern office environment for printing multi-part carbon or NCR stationery. This will help ensure a supply of consumables into the future.

Most Apple printers support other printer emulation modes. Exceptions to the emulation mode are models such as the LW SC that use the QuickDraw imaging model only. The IW I and II, for example, are based on the C-Itoh 8510 and work in high quality mode with any computer that uses C-Itoh drivers, including older versions of Windows.

The IW I and II are also supported by the Lisa OS, Apple III SOS and GS/OS for the Apple IIgs.

Herb Johnson has some useful info on IW II printers a http://njcc.com/~hjohnson/iwii.html.
