FWIW:

When we picked up our '64 Trade Wind last month, we had a blowout about 50 miles into the return trip home.  The old bias plys on the split rims must of just had enough - time for new tires.

We did not really have the choice of shopping around, as our spare was old and mounted on the same split rim, so a Big O tire shop gave us what we needed:

Dynatrac Express Highway
7.00 - 15
8 ply
max load dual   1800 @ 60 psi cold
max load single 2040 @ 60 psi cold

We got three of these along with some rims.

I would have prefered to go with a Goodyear tire, but...didn't have a choice.  And I thought I wanted a radial, but apparently a bias ply sidewall is supposed to be superior to a radial tire (something about the way the belts go around under the rubber).  Anyways, we have what we have...until the next time we have a tire failure.

Cheers,

Bob and Nora

Subject: [VAC] tires to tow?

HI!  Does anyone have a great towing tire?  There are Good Year hi-miler 8ply, 3.1,  7.00-15,  on the trailer right now...the sides are cracking even though there is alot of tread.  Do radials work well for towing???   Thanks!  Laurie '63 GT
