Consider the egg. Soap bubbles. Geodesic domes. The bathysphere. Curved 
surfaces tend to redistribute forces evenly across the shape, rather than 
concentrating them at the vulnerable points (angles, corners, 
connections). In two dimensions, the arch is far stronger than the lintel.
