I have a 205M that the other end of that wire has an female electrical spade. It is a dizzy that I haven't put in the car yet. There is a hole at the bottom of the dizzy for a wire that appears to come from the condenser. The wire has a plastic cover which lodges in that hole. The plastic cover has a male spade on it. I assumed those two spades go together.

It prevents arching between the advance and breaker plate by allowing current to flow from one to the other through the ground. The wire is soldered to each plate with slack to allow the advance to move without binding. It is difficult to reattach, I did it once by really heating the place and wire before applying the solder. It seem to be holding.Dan --- On Thu 03/15, < [EMAIL PROTECTED] > wrote:From: [mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Thu, 15 Mar 2007 23:37:23 -0400Subject: [vintagvw] Distributor repair neededHello all,I've got a single vacuum advance distributorwith a disconnected uninsulated wire inside. The wire is attached to a square nut that accepts the screw that holds the condenser to the outside of the distributor. I believe theother end of the wire should attach to the breakerplate but I can't tell how it was originally connected. The breaker plate does not looklike it would accept solder. How do I reattachthe wire? What is the reason for having this wire at all. I assume it's a grounding wire.Brian_______________________________________________vintagvw site [EMAIL PROTECTED]://lists.sjsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/vintagvw _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! _______________________________________________ vintagvw site list [email protected] http://lists.sjsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/vintagvw
