I have a 1966 1300 beetle sitting in my driveway. It's one of my customer's vehicles and it needs the engine pulled and pushrod tubes installed as the old ones are leaking. I had no idea just how cool an old beetle is! I drove it to work this afternoon and besides having much more room inside as compared to my 74 Super, it's just so primitive and basic. I love it! I notice the gearshift seems to sit farther forward and I really dig the little seperate gas guage off to the side. The lower gearing is a lot spunkier around town too so with a 1500sp pushing me along, it lacks nothing!
Now I know why people like the beetles from the 60s and even the 50s the most. It seems like the older the car, the more of an art form it was whereas later models seemed more like a mass-produced plastic injected hunk of junk. I love my super for long drives - the higher gearing is great for driving 70mph all day long but man, there is something about an old beetle or bus for that mater that just cannot be beat.
