Asad,
My '59 had the fiber/ tar insulation on the area above the gas tank. I still
have some remnants of it.
I have the fiberboard wiring cover (they're hard to find in good condition,
and no-one is reproducing them in anything but ABS plastic), and I bought a
repro (correct) fiberboard trunk liner for it from WW, IIRC.
I'm looking into what it would take to repro the wiring covers (both oval and
early bug styles), but no luck so far. The fiber mat/ tar insulation would
be tough to make, and most volks don't leave it after restoration. It looks
crappy and you can't get one even if you liked the idea of keeping it.

  Thanks for your response Bill,
I never knew there was an asphalt liner too! The plot thickens!
I am still surprised as to how the show cars having their pics up on the www
and VW mags rarely have them in place.
  Best regards,
  Asad.
