Yeah, some European countries required a retrofit when semaphores were abandoned. This car has May ’61-style signals, but the original semaphores appear to still be there.
Incidentally, cars with the aftermarket conversions that appeared bring premium prices now. SHO, SWF, Hella and Jokon all made conversion kits, I’m told. The Hella conversions looked quite different from the VW factory Hella units.
