The shinier the surface the more poorly it conducts heat. Dark matte finish is best. Better heat transfer. I don't have any idea how much difference it really makes though. I live in NY and heat is not a big problem if everything is hooked up correctly. Sorry for such a long non-answer, I'm feeling verbose.
