Dave,

Voice Assistant is one of the best dictation apps right now, and is actually fully usable with VoiceOver.

The only thing you need to be aware of is that VoiceOver is muted when you start dictating, as this stops its chattering from interfering with whatever you are saying. Simply double-tap the screen when you have finished dictating. The recording will be stopped and VoiceOver will return.

another way to handle this is to go into the app settings and turn on the option to have the app automatically recognize when you have stopped dictating.

You might want to take a listen to this podcast on Voice Assistant, which was posted to the AppleVis website just yesterday:

Hi list,

I just downloaded the voice assistant ap, it's a dictation ap that my
girlfriend recommended but it doesn't seem to jive with voiceover. I
have also tried dragon's naturally speaking ap and it wasn't very
accessible either. I have an iphone 4s and the dictate feature on it is
ok, but I was wondering what others use outside of the internal features?
