When you set up the iCloud account, it will ask you if you want it; you do not have to go to the app store to get it.

The phone should let you update it without iTunes since you are on wifi. It may restart after the update. If you don't have iCloud set up, it may ask you to do that; I would do that so that your phone will back up to the cloud.
