Apple TV must have an HDMI connection to get full functionality due to the copy protection used on services like NetFlix, and Itunes. Newer flat screen tvs and some sound bars have HDMI inputs. If you don't have a tv or receiver with HDMI inputs, you might consider looking at a sound bar.
