The keyboard is only spoken when you place your finger on the screen and hold it there to enter characters manually. Using Fleksy the way it is intended, you simply type the word you want to type, approximating where the letters are on the screen. Then Fleksy will use that pattern to predict the word. I've found the majority of the time it is correct. If they suggest a different word, you simply swipe one finger downwards to hear alternatives. After you type a word, you swipt right with one finger to hear Fleksy's suggestion. If correct, you just start typing the next word. If you need to use the down swipe to hear alternatives, once you find the one you want you start typing the next word. It means you can type a lot faster as you don't need to find a letter, listen to VO announce it and then type it. You just type out the pattern of tht word and it doesn't have to be exact for Fleksy to recognise it. Within the app itself is a link to the instructions on the Website and these are very short but extremely clear.

Hope this helps.

Barbara

Is there a proper description of this, you said about better than the
normal keyboard, so what does this give you to type on?

I know I've always hated predictive text as it is so persistent when you're
typing somehting more off.the.wall like jargonese of some sort, or internet
address and things like that, and breaks the flow of the typing. If I
still have to listen to it making decisions, whether off it's own bat or
mine, I can't understand an advantage with it yet.

RobH, or R! for short.

As for me I can tye faster than I have ever done using an iPhone alone. I
have two bluetooth keyboards but just can't be bothered to use them. Fleksy
has convinced me more just to use the iPhone alone. Now with a real qwerty
keyboard I can type very fast, but with Fleksy I can type as fast as I can
handle it compared to typing via the on screen keyboard.

keyboard?

Hi Rose,
You can send texts from within this app. All you have to do is add the
numbers you frequently text to your favorites in the settings app. Those
numbers show up in the actions menu when you're done typing. I've been
texting my husband all day with this app and I love it.
Hope this helps,

So do I, and it might take me 30 seconds to type a message and 10 to cut

kind of
time trying to get it where it belongs to send.

I realize this is an Apple restriction, much as I love my iPhone and use
it
for many things, I want integration not segmentation.

I assume you type a message then cut/paste into whatever application?

I

this actually implemented directly into the OS.

I can see myself using this for typing emails, notes, or lengthy

I don't think I would use it for conversations via text though, hence
why I
would like to see it added as a keyboard option to enable this.

This app really is good and I can't believe how quick I have picked it
up
and how few errors I have made. Even if you do type the wrong word, you
can
easily cycle through suggested alternatives by swiping down.
Punctuation is
so much easier too.

ps I used the application to type this message!

Hi Jessica,

It's a program that allows you to type letters without being
absolutely precise. After you type what you think the letters of a
word are, Fleksy uses what I like to call Word Prediction. What this
means is that when you complete the word you are typing, a swipe to
the right inserts the word followed by a space character and it is
verbalized by Fleksy. If the word is correct, you continue typing
the next word. If the word is not correct, you can swipe up and I
believe down to hopefully find the word you want and it will be
entered. It is important to note that when you begin typing,
VoiceOver must be unloaded, as speech is generated by Fleksy. I also
downloaded the app and look forward to learning it.
