Carol,

All OCR apps use the backfacing camera because the front
camera is strictly meant for Skye or Facetime video and
its resolution is way too low for OCR, I believe it's
like the camera on the iPod Touch which is 1 MP whereas
the iPhone 4 backfacing camera is 5 MP and the 4S is 8
MP.

Does it use the front or back-facing camera?

Hallo Veronica,

Don't change anything in the settings of Saytext.
Just try the following:

place the phone so that it is central and square with
the paper (if you have difficulty with this, i can make
a suggestion as to how to do this)

Doubletap the "Take Picture" button and lift the
phone. I always suggest using both hands as this is the
best way of keeping the phone completely flat and make
sure you don't cover the camera on the back of the phone.

If you are scanning a piece of foolscap, lift the
phone at least a foot high. Then stop for a second or
two to see if the beeps start. if not, lift a little
higher and wait again, repeat until you hear them, but
you should never need to go more than 18 inches high.

Once the beeps and the shutter have gone off, just
wait. you can move the phone now, as the app is no
longer using the camera. You may have to wait from 1 to
2 minutes, but normally not that long and you should
hear "OCR finished" or something like that. then you can
just do a two finger flick down to hear your results.
Let me know if this works for you.

    Sandy.
