Isn't there a setting in mail or messages, and maybe even phone that allows you to set what period of time all trash will be removed? I've got one of those things set for every 30 days.

Hi, In the main list of mail accounts in the mail app, there is a heading that says accounts. Here you can double tap on your email, then double tap on trash. Next, double tap on edit, then at the bottom of the screen, there is a delete all button. I hope this makes sense. If not, let me know, and we can walk through it somehow.
