Another option instead of using the edit option from the rotor is to do a single finger double tap and hold on the text message you want to copy. This should open a menu with one of the options being copy. You can double tap on copy, open the mail app to compose a new message, go into the message body, and do another single finger double tap and hold and select paste from the menu that pops up.
