Yes, Fantastical is my choice now, thanks to Richard. I still couldn't find
a way to end a non-ending event yesterday, without getting Siri to do it.
How is that done, Richard?

Keith,
I just opened Fantastical 2 double tapped on new event.
Did the two finger double tap and dictated the following:
"Dr. Test july 27 at 9 AM alert 30 minutes"
Then I double tapped on the add button.
The event was correctly created with an alert of 30 minutes before.

Hi,
I can set Calendar events with alerts manually. It's a little cumbersome,
but certainly do-able.
I can set Calendar events without alerts using Siri, and then go in and
add alerts manually, but that, too, is a little cumbersome.
I haven't figured out if there is a way to add Calendar events with alerts
using Siri, or some other means that is less cumbersome than the manual
methods above.
Is there any way to do this and save a few steps. I make a fair number of
Calendar events and benefit a lot from the alerts, so a little bit of
extra efficiency would be welcome.
Thanks in advance, Keith
