Unfortunately, the ipod touch 5th and 6th generation have no flash. Having the light source like the StandScan realy would help.

The stand is about 9 inches wide. The phone sits on the platform with about an inch of it sticking out over the edge. So, if you are in a room with half-way decent lighting, plenty of room light gets in since most of the page is exposed. If the only light source was directly behind the stand, it might cast a shadow, but I can’t think of any lighting situations that would be like that. Of course, you also have the flash on the phone to compensate if needed. I’ve not had any trouble at all with lighting. Here is a link to his instructions for setting it up.
