I have a bunch of AVI files. Will they import to itunes? -----Original Message----- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2012 10:38 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Itunes path to video files
Hi Tom, I don't know or have used anything specific to convert DVD's, but there is tons of stuff out there. Keep in mind that if you unplug that hard drive the movies will still show in your iTunes library, but you can't play them, you will get an "Invalid Location" error since iTunes won't be able to find the files. That's what I did yesterday. I thought I was doing it right and maybe I did. It took a while to convert them over or copy them over. When it was done it looked like the files were on my lap top. I'll have to unplug the external drive and see if I still see them on the lap top. By any chance, do you know a good program that will convewrt commercial DVD's so I could include those to watch through Apple TV as well? ----- Original Message ----- From: Sieghard Weitzel <mailto:siegh...@live.ca> To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, August 13, 2012 8:34 PM Subject: RE: Itunes path to video files Hi Tom, This is fairly simple, I assume you have all your videos/movies in one folder on your external hard drive, let's assume it's called "Movies and Videos". Now open iTunes, go to "File" and "Add Folder". Browse to the "Movies and Videos" folder on your external hard drive, then click "Select" and all the videos and movies in the folder will be added to the Movies library in iTunes, but the physical copy remains on your external drive. I do the same thing with Movies and Audio Books because my laptop only has a 120 Gig Solid State Drive and the Lord of the Rings trilogy in high definition I bought from iTunes alone is over 30 Gig. You can, by the way, do this with any media, music, ringtones, audio books etc. As long as the files have the proper iTunes file extentions they will be put in the correct library/category in iTunes. What I want to do is have itunes point to my videos on my external hard drive. I don't want to have the videos moved to my laptop where itunes is, but I want to have Itunes point to the folder on my hard drive so I can play videos in home sharing on my Apple TV. How do I do this? thanks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group.
