Yes, I cleared all apps. No, I did not reset network settings, nor have I ever done so. And the crash after send is inconsistent. Somehow, I don't think network settings is it. If it were, why didn't wait till now? This is a 5S, where the problem didn't happen right away. I have nine on an iPad mini. I haven't seen the problem there. I haven't replied to many messages there. But I have replied to at least one and didn't get the problem. And I didn't redo network settings there. Both devices were upgraded using iTunes, a departure from my usual over the air update practice. Mary
