I haven't found it to be useful in mail. The main reason is that if I preview a message, it can be hard to get out of that mode. However, when using it on the camera, I was able to choose whether to take a selfie, back picture, and several types of videos. I noticed when listening to Jonathans podcast on the Live picture, that I heard him double tap and hold to invoke the 3d touch feature. It will be interesting to see what developers do with this feature. I imagine that it could be fun when playing games for example.
