Krister,

When using the Field of View report, it is not necessary to receive a zero
degree rotation.

My experience has been that as long as I get either a plus or minus 6-8 degree
rotation, I take the picture and have excellent results.

Why is the degree of rotation important. The short anser is that, generally
speaking, the less rotation, the better the OCR.

However, all things being equal, that is to say, the font is large enough and
the paper contrast is good enough, etc, the app can recognize most text without
a zero degree rotation.

If, however, you were scanning a document that used extremely stylized text or
that was very, very small or that had a reflective serfice, then a smaller
degree of rotation may give you better OCR results

Oh, to your original question, the degree of rotation is based on a clock. So,
if you receive a message a plus 7 degrees clockwise rotation message, during
the field of view report, then rotate the phone a little bit counterclockwise,
that is to say, from right to left, as though you were counting down or
backward on a analog clock face.

Finally, I find that I can usually get the photo in one shot if I stand, rather
than sit, when using the app. Of course, I do have some vision and doubtless
this is a tremendous advantage when taking a photo.

Mark

I'll add to Richard's and Sieghard's excellent comments.

I think contrast is very important in getting a reliable field of view report
particularly where the four corners are concerned. Since most pages I scan are
white, I saved an old TV tray top that is dark green. This makes a great
surface to place my pages on before doing a KNFB field of view report. If you
have a table that you know is a darker brown, that also would provide good
background contrast for white pages being scanned.

Good luck.
