For whatever it's worth, I don't have this problem on my 5S nor on my 6S. If I send an email I hear the sound it makes that the email is sent and I can immediately continue to do other things or go into another email that I want to reply to.
Also, the focus bug has been fixed, if you are now in say message 15 of your Inbox and you go into the message and back out focus will remail on that message rather than jumping back up to the top.
