Some sort of temperature sensor which shuts down the iPhone when it gets too hot is probably not the same as a thermometer and in any case, the heat the iPhone produces (even if it doesn’t feel hot) would mean a pretty inaccurate temperature reading. After all, if my living room is 21.4 degrees then I want to know it’s 21.4 and not 22.1 or 22.8 and I think it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that it could be a degree or two off.
