Thanks Anna, That makes perfect sense. It is only when I have the default voice selected that I hear the language switching. It has nothing to do with what languages are in the rotor. I might write Apple and request that they offer an option to enable or disable language switching in the speech settings, the way it is with some Windows screen readers.

If you don't want it to switch, put another English-speaking voice on the rotor and switch to it. Then it won't switch languages regardless of the language tags in the material you're reading.
