Just an FYI,
We recently purchased a Sony XBR 65x850c TV. What is interesting about this latest Sony lineup of 2015 sets is that they are now using Android TV for their OS. I was actually able to load TalkBack onto it which made the TV and lots of settings quite accessible except for some of the apps like Netflix. Pretty much if the apps are accessible on an Android phone, they will be on Android OS. Between this and also using an Apple TV 4th gen, it’s a pretty darn accessible setup. I can switch back and forth between the smart tv interface and Apple TV and of course also to the Xfinity box with talking nvoice guidance. It’s been a big step forward I think from a couple of years ago. Especially Samsung claimed that if you buy one of theirs you can upgrade not just the software but in some cases even the hardware I think with a new processor etc. However, I also read recently in connection with CES in Las Vegas that they are now coming out with stuff where even people who bought a TV a year or two ago are left behind and of course now all the rage is ultra high HD or 4K and of course no TV that is just an HD TV can be upgraded to that. I think in the end it will emerge that TV’s become “dummer” again so to speak and that the smarts will be in the set top boxes we use to access the content. This of course makes sense to me since you shouldn’t have to ugrade an entire TV every 3 to 5 years but a $100 to $200 set top box can be much more easily replaced with something newer and more advanced. Also I think that there are no smart TV’s out there which have any sort of accessibility hence probably the lack of Podcasts since each company does their own thing.
