I think it's a fairly new thing. I usually only read my e-mail with the app, but don't remember having issues with it the few times I used it to access mail and reply, or compose on the fly.
I'm using the Inbox app now, btw--didn't know I had it--DH is a lot more current and tech-savvy than I am--and am not having any problems. *crossed fingers* Cursor routes fine, I can see the edit position, and I can insert and delete in the appropriate places, which were my main issues. Still can't use the 3 & 6-chord to move by character/word/line. But it's good to be most of the way there.
