Correct, this was a fairly big topic in the last couple of iOS related Podcasts like Apple Byte and Today in iOS, the only thing you get for free ow is Beats 1 or whatever it's called. There are no more ad supported free radio stations. If you subscribe to Apple Music you get it all, but now that Apple has seen almost no growth for the first time since they launched the iPhone, I think they need every Dollar they can get *smile*. According to their last quarterly announcement which covered the biggest quarter of the year, October, November and December, they even expect a decline in numbers in the first quarter of 2016. Of course iPad sales have dropped way down compared to the last quarter of 2014 despite the introduction of the iPad Pro, it was something over 21 Million in the last quarter of 2014 and only a bit over 16 Million in the last quarter of 2015. Of course Samsung and most other manufacturers see even bigger declines.

I can’t speak for OS X updates as I having heard anything on this. I am guessing that OS X updates will remain free for now though.
