Try it on the home screen with apps like Camera, Phone, App Store, Messages, Mail or Settings. Just find the app and push down a bit harder on the screen and a menu will pop up which gives you various quick options depending on the app.
You can also press down hard somewhere on the very left edge of the screen to bring up the app switcher, same as a double tap of the home button.
