Interesting, Anne, that you find it more efficient to use the Mac for listening
to Podcasts. I can't think of anything easier for Podcasts than to set up the
ones I listen to in an app like the native Podcasts app, Downcast or Overcast
which gives me the freedom to listen to them anywhere I go with a minimal and
simple interface. In the case of the native Podcasts app I even have SIRI
control and I can just tell SIRI which Podcast I want to listen to or, while I
am listening, whether I want to jump back 38 seconds or jump ahead a minute and
50 seconds because Rob from Today in iOS is doing one of his length ads about
Harry's Razors or whatever which I couldn't care less about.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Re: How Do You Use iOS?

Hello Mark,

I use Messages, Weather, Calendar, and FaceTime.
For reading ebooks, my favourite app is Kobo as it reads straight through a
chapter then stops. Also, it doesn’t make those page-turning noises that Kindle
does, and doesn’t hyphenate inappropriately which Kindle does. It also works
well with my Focus 14 Braille display.
I do use Kindle when I can’t get a book on Kobo, but I rarely, but
occasionally, use iBooks for ebooks, but mostly for Audible books.
An app I can’t live without is Talking Goggles. I use it to identify cans in my
kitchen. Many of the products I buy are from small organic French producers and
are not on the barcode databases, making Digit-Eyes and other barcode scanners
useless.
For GPS, I use BlindSquare and Navigon.
For sharing notes with my Mac, I use Simple Note for iOS with Notational
Velocity for OS X. I don’t use iCloud which is why I don’t use the native Notes
apps for this. When I say I don’t use iCloud, I mean for my personal use. I
share an iCloud with my husband so that we can sync our calendars.
For OCR, I use KNFBReader, but I still have several other apps just in case.
I used to use Money Reader but it’s no longer useful here in the Euro zone.
I also use the Camera app with variable results since I have no sight at all.
And since I have no light perception, I also use Light Detector to know when to
put the lights on.
I like BBC News for catching up with news stories, and TweetList for Twitter,
but I hardly ever tweet.

I prefer to use my Mac for web browsing, Mail, listening to podcasts and word
processing. I find it much more efficient.

Cheers,

Anne
