Hi, I often have the same problem. I think it's because it's easy to move your hand out of position when you enter a space character. I recommend touching the edge of the phone with the thumb of the hand you're using to space to help anchor it. Also, for a while, write in six-dot braille and set your phone to speak every character. That way, you'll have lots of feedback while you're developing muscle memory. if you switch to contracted and start having trouble, switch back to six-dot for a bit. You can switch at any time by flicking right with three fingers.
