You can go to each Device once it's connected, you can go to music, appk, book, etc. and select which content you want on that particular device. I use a playlist. My wife has a playlist and I have a playlist for the songs we each like. Once created, you can also choose which playlists that you want on the device. I have each of our playlist on my iPhone. If I'm alone, I can listen to just mine, and if we're together, I may play hers or the complete library.
