Hi Keith, If you have a 4S, then you'll get HSPA+ speeds, which AT&T laughingly has had Apple call 4G. Everywhere else in the world, the 4S shows 3G for the same kind of network, and those networks are usually faster since AT&T has serious capacity issues in major markets. Jonathan

I talked to Apple last week about unlocked iPhones, and they, too, said only AT&T phone and texting was available for unlocked phones. No data services. These resoucces are very helpful. How is data performance using this approach? Thanks. International roaming charges are exorbitant, so when I visit the US which I do regularly for work, I use a GoPhone prepaid sim card from AT&T. I was able to walk into an AT&T Store and get a Microsim for GoPhone. If you don't have a US credit card, you will want to buy a voucher while at the store and top up the account, since you can only use US credit cards over the phone or online. They warned me, however, that AT&T doesn't support any data services whatsoever when you use an iPhone on prepay. And indeed, when you try to use data on GoPhone, you get told that you are not subscribed to a data service. There is, however, a really easy way to fix this. Connect to a WiFi hotspot with your iPhone, and from Safari, visit <http://www.unlockit.co.nz/voice.php> http://www.unlockit.co.nz/voice.php You will find a very extensive list of carriers here. Choose AT&T, and a small profile will be installed into your iPhone which populates it with all the AT&T APN settings. You can then subscribe to the prepay data packages by calling 611 from the phone, and all works as it should. You can go into settings and delete the AT&T profile before returning to your home network. I happily use 3G to get mail, send tweets etc, and all on prepay. I got my IPhone 4S unlocked by Apple, with the intention of taking it to America next week, but after finding out all the roaming charges that will be involved, I've decided to buy a prepaid sim card once I'm there, however, does such a thing exist? Do I need to go to a particular store to get one? Does anyone have any recommendations? Hoping for some help as I leave Thursday. Many thanks.
