This is all true, but there are still reasons someone might want to use their ISP's email address, so we should all help Denise, in addition to giving her this advice. I use my ISP's email address for things where I'm not too interested in the email that goes there, such as emails from my ISP, places where I need a backup email address or places that ask for an email address, but I don't really want to add spam to my primary email account. Sure, I could just get another free address from Google, but why shouldn't I use an address that should disappear when I leave ISP's.

I have to agree with this, we've had private hosting for years, but the public

Hello Denise,

As a general rule, I usually recommend that people do not use the email service
of their internet service provider (ISP)--especially
the cable companies and phone companies. There are several reasons for this
not the least of which being that should you decide to
leave that provider, you will need to transfer your email accounts; this is to
say, you will need to change your email address.

This is just my opinion but my preferred solutions are gMail, Appple,
Microsoft, or a private remote email server.

Subject: Question about setting up email on iphone

If anyone is using Comcast xfinity for your email provider I have a question.
I had to change my Comcast Xfinity password and also
when in and changed it on my phone. I now can get incoming mail but can’t
send, and I don’t see anything for outgoing mail that
requires a password. I am using a pop server so it’s the smtp side.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Denise
