Well, the top row is the function keys. They don't do much, though a couple of them should adjust volume, play and pause audio, rewind etc. I've never had an issue with the escape key. If it at least doesn't activate the back button when there is one on the screen, perhaps it is a bad keyboard and you should call them about returning it and getting a replacement. Richard
