Hi Scott, It is my understanding that the reason why you can't buy books from the Audible app is because if this were possible Audible (Amazon) would have to pay Apple as it would be considered to be an in-app purchase. I'm not saying that this necessarily is an excuse, I'm sure Apple could allow the purchase of digital content and somehow differentiate this from other in-app purchases.
As for opening up the SIRI API for apps like Audible or other music streaming services that is in my view just a matter of time. Also, as for Apple Music on other platforms, it may not work with the Amazon Echo, but it works beautifully with Sonos. Now Sonos just has to somehow make it possible to allow for SIRI input as well since of course inside the Sonos app tcontrolling Apple Music with SIRI is not possible. What I like most about Spotify is that the radio feature seems to work better, and I'm able to use it on all my devices: my PC at work, my iPhone, and my Echo Dot. Apple Music is a pain to use on anything other than an Apple product, and doesn't exist on the Echo platform. I've not tried the Windows app, and that's off topic for this list, but now that I have Win 10, I may.
