The maps in BlindSquare are, in my opinion, some of the worst available. They come from a source named "Open Street Map", and are free. When I complained to the developer of Blind Square as to how inaccurate they were for my city, and asked how could we report map issues to get corrected, he said he was not planning for any map correction features; and he only downloaded a copy of the map data once a year anyway, and so it wouldn't make any difference to me for a long time.
Open Street Map counts on volunteers to correct map data, and while it's impressive for a volunteer effort, it's just not the same thing as commercial map data. As for low cost blind navigation programs, I like Arriadne GPS much better; and it costs something around $4 and gives you a nicer feel for how streets are laid out around you (in my opinion). It uses Google Map data.
