Jesse, I have had that happen a few times, and it's frustrating! I've found that if I click on Library, using the Focus touch cursors, and then select the book that I'm reading, it takes me back to the book with no further issues. It seems like it's some kind of glitch that only occurs occasionally, as I think it's happened to me three times in the last year. In any case, clicking on Library has resolved the problem for me.
