Carol, What you're seeing on the home screen with the "actions available" and the extra home screen page are new features in iOS 10. Every app on the home screen has actions now with the rodar, where you can double tap to activate, or swipe up or down to choose to arrange apps. Also, the first page of your home screens is where the notification center and all of your app notifications moved to. So page 2 is actually page 1 of your apps. I had 5 pages in iOS 9 of apps, and now with iOS 10 I have 6. It gets confusing, but that's what's going on.
By the way, I really like iOS 10 as well. There's so much to explore in the OS that it's really like having a brand new phone. Add to that that I will be getting my iPhone 7 at some point from the pre-order, and then I will get the pleasure of doing all of this familiarization all over again, but on a truly brand new phone.
