Well, I honestly haven't encountered a situation where my phone or any
other
device I've used for recipes in the kitchen, (Booksense for example,) has
either gotten messy or in particular, dropped in my food. Now that I say
that, it'll happen I bet... LOL!
That being said, there are sleeves that you can purchase, (also kitchen
mounts for the iPad,) that will cover your phone to keep it free from
messes.
I will say though that I'm one of those people who is constantly taking my
phone out of its case, and cleaning the case with Dawn and my phone with a
little Windex. I find that just general day to day use makes both icky
from
sweat or dust from your daily traveling alone. So it really could be that
my
being a bit neurotic when it comes to the cleanliness of my phone is
what's
keeping things from getting messed up in the kitchen.

I am very curious. I have stayed away from the cooking apps because I
worry about the phone getting messy, dropped in my food... How do you
use this when cooking?

Oh there are so many cooking related apps on the iPhone; and very good
ones
at that!
There's Big Oven, Kraft iFood assistant, Betty Crocker Mobile Cookbook,
McCormick Recipe Finder, and All Recipes; just to name a few! I have too
big
of a collection... There's also a crockpot one from Sun Beam products.
Really, with all the accessible and free recipe apps on the iPhone, you
can
have a wealth of cookbooks/recipes at your fingertips, and you'll have
more
than you can cook from. *smile* Don't look at recipes when you're hungry
though... haha!
I will say though that the Big Oven App (for me anyway,) tended to be
very
laggy on the 3GS; just something worth noting, if any of you 3gS users
are
interested in that one in particular. It is however, not laggy on the 4
or
4S.

Hello Folks,
I have the Epicurious app on my phone. What I like about it is when it
is
first opened, the first page will give you different selections on the
type
of meals if you are interested in one of the categories. There are also
four
different buttons at the bottom to go to the home menu, search,
favorites,
shopping list, and about. At the upper right hand corner after making a
category selection, there is a "toggle list" button. This needs to be
tapped
on to open the list of recipes. Once you have selected a recipe by
tapping
on it, there is an "Add" button that will give you options to add it to
your
favorite list, email the recipes, tweet it, send to Facebook, or add to
the
shopping list. There are different ways to search when you tap on the
search
button. There are different types of food items such as avocado, bacon,
etc.
to link on for recipes. There is a text field to type in a type of
recipe
you are looking for or a food item to search the app. Besides different
food
items to search for, there are categories for dietary considerations,
dish
type, main/course, seasonal, and etc. For 1.99, you can get the recipe
box
and sync the recipes there. I have not considered spending the money
because
I place it in my favorites or email myself the recipes. This is a good
little app. I believe it is free minus the recipe box sync for $1.99.
The
developer and the full app name is below. Enjoy.
