Hello,

When my dad got his new phone back in June, the rep at the AT&T store started the restore from an iCloud backup. When we were ready to leave the restore was not finished. The rep told my Dad that it would be fine if we left. This however screwed up my dads phone. My dads phone would not let him update the phone when 9.3.4 came out. It kept telling him that his phone was not done restoring from the backup even though this was a week or two later. It is definintly important to stay in WIFI coverage till the restore is finished because you cant do the restore with cell data.

Greg Wocher

When you set up the new phone, you should get an option to either start as new device or restore from a backup. At that point, you can choose your most recent backup.

From experience, be sure you are on a wireless network and will be in range of that network until the restore is completely finished. In other words, if you start the restore in the Apple Store, be sure you are going to be there for the duration. I made this mistake and it wasn’t pretty.
