Hi Terri, I know David answered most of your questions, but I just thought I put in a thought regarding the consumption of media whether it's music or movies/TV Shows. Of course Amazon may sometimes have something that is not on iTunes or maybe a movie or TV Show is cheaper there. However, I know you have an Apple TV as do I and in my opinion I don't see a reason why I would start buying movies or TV shows from Amazon which means in order to watch them I have to possibly Airplay them to my Apple TV. Again, somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that there was no Amazon Video app for the Apple TV. If there is and you can consume anything you buy this way it's of course no problem, not too much difference whether I use the iTunes app on my Apple TV or the Amazon Video app except maybe SIRI integration. I am in Canada where Amazon Prime does not include any free videos so there isn't much reason here to have an Amazon Prime membership.
This also relates to your other post regarding Sirius XM. I know Sirius has some Sports channels and comedy and so on which you may not get with Spotify which is primarily music, but you said you also have a Tune In subscription for their Pro service so you may get some of this already. Everybody nowadays competes for the end user's buck and often the service offering is very similar and having two services means a lot of duplication. I understand Spotify is also very good, I used to have a subscription but got rid of it because I'm a big Sonos user and at the time the Spotify integration with Sonos was very basic. This has now been fixed and in fact Sonos is rolling out updates soon which allow you to control your Sonos system from the Spotify app which means if you are big time into Spotify this is great because you get the full Spotify experience and are able to play to any of your Sonos players from inside the app rather than using the Sonos controller where you get access to your Spotify subscription from inside it. I really hope Sonos and Apple can come to an agreement so that this will at some point be available in the Music app and maybe one day when SIRI integration withthird-party apps is expanded and includes other app categories I can have the experience where I simply say "Hey SIRI, play the best songs from 1988 on Sonos in the living Room" either using my iPhone or the Apple TV and Apple Music will play the songs with the music app sending it to my Sonos system. I personally think that especially if there are two people involved as in you are a couple or have another family member, the Apple Music family subscription for $14.99 a months is an awesome deal and while I still have my Deezer subscription which was paid as an annual subscription, I am not sure if I'll renew again. Both my wife and I use Apple Music a lot and on our iPhones we only get our recommendations and all that because of the family plan. Now I just wish Apple would offer this $14.99 plan at a bit of a discount if you prepaid for the entire year, $15 for a year is $180 so maybe they could offer it for $149.99 if you prepay for the year although of course this comes off my iTunes account so if I buy $200 worth of iTunes gift cards at 20% off when I can find them I get an entire year's Apple Music service not at $14.99 a months but effectively at $11.99 a month, so for around $144 a year. I'm a regular user of the Amazon Video app and so I will try and answer your questions. > >A friend was telling me about Amazon Video. They were saying that the > app was free, that you only pay for what you download. The app itself is free. How much free content you get depends on whether you're a member of Amazon Prime. If you're a Prime member, Amazon provides a good deal of free content from its video library. If you're not a Prime member, I don't believe the app offers anything in the way of free content. In either case, Amazon has a selection of movies and TV shows that you can purchase or rent. > >Is it pretty reasonably priced to rent a movie? > I believe so but it's been a while since I've looked at rental prices. > >They said you can buy movies as well. > Yes. > >Can you purchase tv shows? > Yes. You can either purchase individual episodes or entire seasons. > >I would imagine that this would be pretty expensive, though? It depends on the movie or TV show. Some seasons might only cost $15-20, some might be more expensive. You should visit Amazon's site and look at prices for Instant Video, which is what you're looking for when it comes to the app. Unfortunately, you can't use the app itself to purchase content, although you can use it to search for it. > >And I would imagine all that video would take up a lot of room? > > Does anything you purchase, have to stay on your device? All shows and movies can be streamed and so they won't take up any extra space. They can be downloaded for offline listening/viewing but this isn't the default. > > >And of course, is this app pretty accessible? It is quite accessible. The only issue you'll have a problem with is their list of premium channels for renting content. Instead of reading the name of the channel, VoiceOver just says "opens the landing view." > -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
