I know of someone with a similar situation, where when they went to
update an app through the App Store, the home screen said waiting on
the app's name. They ended up having to do a reset on their device by
holding the home and power buttons for 10 to 15 seconds. This will not
erase any data, apps or settings. If that doesn't work, you might
consider doing a restore from iTunes or reset from General settings.
Make sure you have a backup in iTunes or iCloud before restoring your
device.
