Hi,

iOS 10.2 was supposed to have this "Emergency SOS" feature where pressing the
sleep/power button 5 times quickly would initiate a call to 9 1 1 after 3
seconds. Similarly to using SIRI to call 9 1 1 there was that 3 second
countdown to give you a chance to cancel it if you didn't mean to actually call
9 1 1. This would have allowed you to call 9 1 1 even if you had your phone in
the pocket, you would just press the power button 5 times and a few seconds
later the call would be placed.
However, in the iOS 10.2 beta cycle this feature was only available in India
(for testing I assume) and it appears that Apple has decided not to include it
in the iOS 10.2 final release. Currently when you press the power button 5
times quickly nothing happens. There was also supposed to be an "Energency SOS
option in Settings > General which allowed you to disable the option with the
power button, but no such setting exists at this time.
In thesettings for Energency SOS you were also able to switch it from pressing
power 5 times to 3 times and you were able to disable the 3 second
delay/audible alert that 9 1 1 was being called, this would allow you to
contact 9 1 1 in complete silence in a sticky situation as long as you were
able to reach your phone for a couple of seconds to press the button.
The Apple Watch got the Emergency SOS feature with Watch OS 3 in September, you
can initiate the call by holding the side button for 5 seconds.
The Emergency SOS feature on the iPhone was supposed to be available in 14
countries, but it seems that only India got to test it during the beta cycle
and also still has the feature now after the final release.
If you Google "iOS 10.2 Energency SOS" you can find all sorts of articles about
it.

Regards,
Sieghard

yes, they took away the ability to reset by pressing the power button 5 times

Subject: iOS 10.2 and iPhone 5s

Morning everyone.

Has anyone got the screen to nake an emergency call after updating to iOS
10.2 on an iPhone 5s? Or is my girlfriend's iPhone 5s showing signs of
stupidity? Lol! Seriously, are these signs her device is breaking? The strange
thing is she only got this screen after restarting VoiceOver after it froze
right after the update. Thanks in advance for any responses.
