Hi Ari,
I think Blind Bargains talked about the iGrill Mini in one of their podcasts,
but I don’t think they did one just on it.
My wife is sighted, so when I got mine, I had help with it.
Like many devices with the battery installed, you have to first remove the
strip of material preventing contact so the battery doesn’t drain and that is
pretty easy.

The base provides two functions. First it is a handy way to keep the cord from
getting all tangled when not in use. The cord wraps around the base.
The base also works as a mount for the iGrill Mini. It has some adhesive tape
on the bottom that if you want to mount it somewhere where a sighted person can
easily see it or just to have a place to keep it out of the way and not in a
drawer, you can stick it on a clean, smooth surface.
I just put the iGrill Mini on the base and keep it in a drawer.
I do not recommend following their temperature guidelines. I think they are a
bit low for meat. For example, I like my steak medium. According to the
iGrill Mini, that would be 155 degrees Fahrenheit. That is too rare for me.
165 is much more like medium to me. It still is plenty pink in the middle.
I used the iGrill Mini for cooking a steak on the George Foreman grill.
I set it to 160 to test it and it worked perfectly. I had my wife double check
the doneness, and then let it get to 165 before taking it off.

Then, she who likes her steak medium well to well done, put the probe in her
steak and let it get to 180.

I have not yet used it in the oven, but that will be next.

The app could be labeled better, and once I get it all sorted out I may do a
podcast of sorts, or at least detailed written instructions.

Richard

Wow, Richard! Thanks for a link to the PDF, as well as pasting those
quick-start directions in to your email! I've seriously been wanting an iGrill,
and when I do, I'm sure I'll find your email useful. In fact, I'm going to use
the link you posted to download that manual in to the Manuals folder in Voice
Dream Reader, so I can have it handy when the time comes to really get serious
about learning exactly how the iGrill works. In the meantime, the manual will
probably help me understand how it works a bit better. For example, I'm a bit
confused as to the function of the base part mentioned in the quick-start
directions.

you know of any blindness-specific podcasts that do an unboxing/demonstration
of the iGrill Mini?

Thanks,
Ari

It is always a good idea to read the manual.
Here is the first part of the manual followed by a link to an accessible PDF
version You should not have used a screw driver for anything.

Subject: iGrill Questions

I recently purchased and I grill mini, I have several questions:

- does the device typically come with a battery?
- what size battery does it use?
- it came with a thin metal desk about his big in diameter as a half-dollar
piece, what is that supposed to be?
1- I have unscrewed two tiny screws in the bottom of the device and removed the
magnetic plate, I assume that is where the battery is to be placed – is this
correct?

Thanks for any help anybody can offer!
